What is Reflexology?

Maria with patient
I absolutely love this therapy, the effects of it are felt as soon as the therapist’s hand touch the client’s feet! I’m trained in both Spinal Reflexology and in Conception-Pregnancy Reflexology.
Dating to, as far back as, ancient Egypt, reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet (or hands) to help the whole person not just the symptoms. It is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands which correspond to every part of the body. Stimulating and applying pressure to the feet (or hands) can increase circulation and can help many health problems in a natural, non-invasive way.
How can Reflexology help me?
Reflexology can be used to help restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance.
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. After completing a course of reflexology treatments for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.
Reflexology has been shown to be effective for:
- Stress related conditions
- Back pain
- Headaches
- Fertility
- Immune system boosting
- Hormonal imbalances
- Digestive disorders
- And many more
Testimonials

My husband and I had been trying for a baby for a year when I read that reflexology could be useful for conception. After 2 sessions I found out I was pregnant. Unfortunately I miscarried but 3 months later and after regular reflexology sessions I was pregnant again. Each session made me feel more confident that it was going to work for us. It just felt like the treatments ‘got everything working as it should’.

For years I’ve suffered with painful sinuses and working in an air conditioned environment for the past few years hasn’t helped the problem. I felt immediate relief after my very first reflexology session. Also, being a caretaker and being on my feet all day, I find that they become quite painful with pains radiating up the legs. Reflexology has given me relief in these areas too. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it to anyone.
What happens when I go for treatment?
On the first visit, I will have a preliminary chat with you to determine your present and past health and your lifestyle – this will give me an overall picture of you, the client. We can also discuss your own issues and health concerns. Once you are comfortable in the reflexology I will use my hands to apply pressure to your feet. The application and the effect of the therapy is unique to each person.
As a professionally trained reflexologist I will be able to detect subtle changes in specific points on the feet and working on these points can affect the corresponding organ or system of the body.
A treatment session usually lasts for about an hour. A course of 6 to 8 treatments is usually recommended.
How will I feel after a Reflexology treatment?
After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way. The vast majority of people note an immediate sense of well-being, calmness and relaxation. Sometimes people report feeling lethargic, light-headed or tearful, but this is transitory and is a part of the healing process.
This is vital information to feed back to me as it shows how your body is responding to treatment. This will help me to tailor a treatment plan specific to your own needs.
