The ancient Chinese believed that there is a universal life energy called Chi or Qi present in every living creature. This energy is said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways that are called ‘Meridians’. As long as this energy flows freely through the meridians then health is maintained. However, once the flow of energy is blocked, the bodily system is then disrupted causing pain and illness to occur. Acupuncture works to “re-program” and restore normal function by stimulating certain points on the meridians in order to free up the Chi energy. This restoring of normal function is by the insertion of very fine needles on the acupuncture points along the blocked meridians.
What are the health benefits?
Until the early 1970’s the evidence for the health benefits of acupuncture was mainly anecdotal. In the past 30 years, however, numerous controlled studies have been carried out throughout the world.
Acupuncture can help with:
- Allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- PMS, menopause, dysmenorrhea
- Backache, frozen shoulder, sciatica, knee pain etc
- Whiplash injuries
- Headaches and migraines
- Infertility

Is the treatment safe?
Acupuncture treatment is very safe. Very rarely the point at which the acupuncture needle is inserted may slightly bruise. Any bruising should disappear after a few days. Some patients also feel slightly sleep after treatment.
Needles are disposable and used only once.
How soon will the results be noticeable?
You should plan to have a course of treatments consisting of at least four. Most patients feel a difference immediately.
